30th Anniversary of a state championship
March 15, 1980. Clarksville senior girls win the state overall state championship in Conway over Little Rock McClellan 60-49. It marked a big change for girls basketball in Arkansas as rules moved from 6 on 6 to 5 on 5 as we know it today. The girls won the AA state championship the week before, the overall state title does not even exist today.
"Every year when the State Tournaments are being played,
I think fondly of the 1979-80 school year. I was truly blessed
with special young ladies who loved basketball as much as
I did. They set their goals and worked hard to achieve them.
Their accomplishments will forever stand in the record books.
Even though 30 years have come and gone, the players, parents,
fans, and the games are still very vivid in my mine. Thanks for
the memories."
Coach Rita Yates
A proud moment and accomplishment for not only these ladies, but for all of Clarksville! Happy anniversary.
